Spike Milligan – The Q5 Theme

This, the theme from the first Q TV series in 1969, is probably the best and most concise way of describing what it was that made Spike Milligan so wonderful and unique. The anarchy, the surrealism, the high humour and the low humour are all here in the form of an off-key piano, a honking horn, nonsense words, squeaky voices and toilet groans. It also captures Milligan’s character in that it’s both hilariously funny and somehow rather melancholic. And all tied together in a great little tune.
