LCD Soundsystem – All I Want

James Murphy’s explicit homage to Eno (and Bowie and Robert Fripp) is as familiarly clever and knowing as LCD Soundsystem’s earlier best songs, specifically Daft Punk Is Playing At My House, Losing My Edge and All My Friends. But while All I Want also sounds like the work of an arch hipster with a cool record collection, it has a vulnerability about it that makes it genuinely affecting. This is partly due to the lyrics (“all I want is your pity, all I want is your bitter tears”) but is mostly due to Murphy’s (somewhat uncharacteristic) heartfelt singing.
