The McCoys – Hang on Sloopy

A great piece of garagey pop, played by session musicians but sung – brilliantly – by the then sixteen-year-old Rick Derringer. As well as his screams, there’s the way he takes on the eroticism of the “Sloopy let your hair down girl, let it hang down on me” line and gives it an extra level of desire. And all on top of that lusty, primal beat. Amazing then that it also manages to be very sweet.
