Fergie – Clumsy

Produced by the undeniably talented (but undeniably irritating) will.i.am, this is just a great piece of pop music. By harking back to doo-wop and early rock ‘n’ roll (explicitly through its use of Little Richard’s The Girl Can’t Help It), the normally rather saucy Fergie convincingly comes across all naively lovestruck and girlish. The overall feeling of sweetness and innocence is helped along by the nursery rhymey melody, the sweetly clumsy lyrics and the tick-tock beat (reminiscent of Trio’s Da Da Da but courtesy, apparently, of the Bloodhound Gang’s A Lapdance Is So Much Better When The Stripper is Crying).

She sings it well too.
