Mercury Rev – Coney Island Cyclone

From their 1991 debut LP, Yerself Is Steam, this song captures, in a mere two-and-a-half minutes, everything* that was great about early Mercury Rev. Trippy, psychedelic and a bit scary – but full of pop sweetness and joy.

*Almost everything: it doesn’t feature the rather menacing, loopy tones of co-singer David Baker.
